Open pollinated pole bean. One of the very best baking beans. The plump, round, maroon seeds without streaking look like Thanksgiving cranberries, unlike the speckled, oval bush cranberry types. One of our oldest varieties, True Cranberry is listed on Slow Food’s Ark of Taste. The True Cranberry Bean is a very old bean that has been grown since colonial times, and prior to that by the Native Americans of Maine. The bean is excellent as a shell bean or in its dry state. They are delicious in chili or other recipes that call for dry beans.

Direct seeds in loose soil well after danger of frost in rows 12 - 18 inches apart. Grows well with a strong stalked corn without lodging issues as trellis. Let mature until buckskin color and harvest on a dry day.
