Redfern Gardens

Kathy Connell is a long time CSA farmer and organic farm inspector living in Sebeka, MN. She purchased her farm in 1994. She is concentrating more on seed saving lately and growing for a few seed companies. She has worked hard to build the soil at her homestead, which was more or less straight sand. Utilizing organic soil building techniques such as mulching, no-till, cover cropping and fertillizing with soy meal, she grows an ample amount of crops on a few acres of production.

Pictured below, Kathy shows the brush that she is using for pollination of the Early Scarlet Horn Carrots this year. Typically carrots are pollinated by insects, but we wanted to get an early start on them and she read that by brushing the flowers daily, will aid in pollination.
