The Boreal Farm
Jay and Caroline own The Boreal Farm, a small, diversified family farm, growing fruit, vegetables and flowers using regenerative practices and raise pastured poultry for meat. They offer fresh produce, cut flowers and meat through their CSA program and online farm store. The farm is USDA Certified Organic, Real Organic Project certified, Bee Friendly Farm certified, Minnesota Agriculture Water Quality with Conservation Excellence endorsements for Integrated Pest Management, Soil Health and Wildlife. They are also conducting research in applying renewable energy and modern technologies to traditional food preservation method of root cellaring to help small producers extend the harvest season. A foundational principle of The Boreal Farm is to be a teaching farm and living classroom.
Caroline is a founding farmer and an administrator for Twin Ports REKO Ring; member of the Lake Superior CSA Guild; serves as vice presidents of MN Sustainable Farming Association, Lake Superior chapter; and recently completed the MN Climate Change Communicator program.
