(65-75 days) This old-fashioned tomato family member bears 1/2– 3/4" sweet golden berries inside papery husks resembling small, straw-colored Japanese lanterns. They are a conversation piece at markets, fun to eat and well liked by children. Selection of classic varieties Goldie and Aunt Molly’s. Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry has been designated by Slow Food as a culturally important heirloom. Great to snack on. These prolific berries will continue to grow all season long.
Growing Tips
Sow indoors 1/4" deep a few weeks before the last frost date, and transplant in the garden in rows about every 18"-24". Plants will form blousy bushes like tomatillos. Keep well weeded until they fill in the space in order to best find the fallen fruits later in the season. Harvest after fruit has fallen to the ground, husks turn brown and fruits are yellow.
